About Heather Spain, M.D.

Dr. Heather Spain is board-certified in both General (Adult) as well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She earned her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed her residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. She then completed a fellowship at Creighton-UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to moving to South Dakota, she worked in Omaha at Boys Town as both an inpatient and outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Her current treatment population includes children, adolescents and young adults. While Dr. Spain is trained to treat all mental health concerns, specific clinical interests include anxiety disorders, mood disorders and collaborative care across health care disciplines. She is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and enjoys hiking and biking in her free time.

About Monument Health Behavioral Health Center

Monument Health Behavioral Health Center is a psychiatric healing environment offering inpatient and outpatient services for patients of all ages. Providers include psychiatrists, skilled nurses, licensed counselors and licensed social workers. Caregivers consider the whole person: mind, body and spirit.

The outpatient clinic offers psychiatric diagnostic interviews and medication management services. Inpatient treatment includes group, family and individual therapy, as well as diagnostic testing and psychological evaluations. Occupational therapists evaluate and treat patients with special needs, and recreational therapists provide a therapeutic environment. If necessary, patients can be hospitalized at Rapid City Hospital. Intensive case management is available to coordinate external services for the hospitalized patient.
